Weekly News 19-26 September

Good News

The good news for this week is about a telethon and not just any telethon. The first-ever telethon to fight climate change. To me, it seems kind of crazy that no one has ever thought to do this before but it is great that someone finally did. The telethon was held in Denmark and raised enough money to plant 1 million trees across the country. It was called 'Denmark plants trees' and was filmed within the Gisselfeld Klosters Skove forest. Is that not cool? The goal was to raise 20 million danish kroner, but they fell slightly short of their goal.

Bad News

This week's bad news is about the meltwater lakes on the surface of the east Atlantic ice sheet. And frankly, they are a lot more significant than we thought. Durham University found out that there are more than 65,000 supraglacial lakes, using satellites. The lakes were even in places where we thought the melting was not that intense.  In winter the temperatures are often around -40 Celcius, but in the summer they can reach temperatures above 0 causing serious melting.

Company

This week the company will be the package free shop.  It was started by Lauren, known from the zero waste blog 'Trash is for tossers'. Their shop is 100% waste-free and helps you live a zero-waste life. My favorite product would be, the set with Laurens essentials. Link to shop  Link to blog

Charity

For this week's charity I would really appreciate it if you would donate to my donation site of the WWF. https://www.plasticbende.nl/theevergreen With the money clean up boats for the ocean will be bought/rented, doctors for turtles will be hired, trash stations will be set up in Indonesia, and children living near the coral triangle will get educated about trash.
