When throwing a party you may not realize how bad balloons are for the environment.
Why not balloons?
So just imagine you are at a party, there are balloons. You play with them, one floats away. You watch it go but forget about it.
I am going to tell you what happens after it floats up and out of your life. So the balloon may be floating for a while before it pops or deflates. Then it will come down, and a turtle may mistake it for food. Or get entangled in the string
It is not only turtles that risk getting entangled by the string, but also birds, dolphins, and other sea animals. We also need to use less helium, since it is not an infinite resource. And we need for medical purposes.
What to use instead?
There are a few alternatives for balloons and I have put them all in one spot.
Letting go of balloons: there are many occasions when you let go of balloons and let them float into the world, and we have just learned how bad this is. So instead of that opt for a different way of 'letting go' you can throw seed bombs, or drop flowers into a river.
Party Decor: an easy alternative to balloons as party decor would be party decor you can reuse multiple times.
Party Favors: I remember from when I lived in America that I would often walk out of a party with a balloon tied to my hand. And they are a popular party favor in many other countries too. Instead of this use seed paper. Which I plan on posting a tutorial on.
I hope this post helps you rethink your party choices!
I absolutely agree...Balloons are almost a reflex action for us in times of celebrations and although they're fun and add a great vibe, they're not good for the planet at all. Will definitely think up alternate ways to dress up a celebration.
